The Internet releases a new song titled Next Time/Humble Pie. The song which happens to be the longest song on their new album begins wit h Syd describing her ambivalence in a party scene, where she wants to approach a woman with a “momental face” but she’s too nervous, her “heart racing,” to do anything and so she regrets it, lamenting, “shoulda met you when I had the chance.”
She describes the back-and-forth process as she weighs it in her head: “energy wasted/But what do I say if I see hesitation?/But what do I do if she walks away?” She eventually comes to the conclusion that, next time, she’ll “just start by saying hi.”
The second half of the song could be read as the fall-out of that regret, with Syd dreaming (“Humble Pie” sounds dreamy, muddy and slow) about how the woman at the party needs “real love.”
