The 2017 Meadows Festival is going down this weekend in Queens, New York where the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gorillaz, Nas, Future, Migos, Run The Jewels, Erykah Badu, Joey Bada$$, Big Boi, Ghostface Killah, 21 Savage, and many more are all set to take the stage over the next 72 hours. However, the biggest act of the weekend is Jay Z, who took the stage Friday night in front of a sold out crowd at Citifield and brought us some memorable moments in the process.
According to the twittersphere & those lucky enough to be there in attendance, Hov apparently dedicated his performance of “The Story Of OJ” to Colin Kaepernick, Dick Gregory, and any “other person held back,” before later dedicating his performance of “Numb” to the late Chester Bennington of Linkin Park as well.
In addition to that, Hov also brought out special guest Damian Marley to help perform their 4:44 collab “Bam,” before running through his catalogue of hits. Of those records, Hov performed “Run This Town,” “Empire State Of Mind,” “Big Pimpin,” “99 Problems,” & several records off from his Watch The Throne project with Kanye West. According to one attendee, Hov even lead the crowd through Kanye’s verse in “Niggas In Paris,” which hopefully is a sign that the two are working on rebuilding their friendship.
Hov’s performance serves as a nice little warm up before he takes the road this Fall & Winter for the nationwide “4:44” Tour.
With Beyonce & Blue watching from backstage, check out some of the tweets & fan-captured moments from Friday night (below), and we’ll be sure to keep you posted with anything new moving forward.
