Only a day after ending her Aquarius era with the video for “Bet” & “Feels Like Vegas,” Tinashe has announced her sophomore album Joyride.
“I always had it in the back of my head, but it started to become more and more relevant to my current state of my career,” she tells Rolling Stone. “With all this traveling I’ve done this past year and everything I’ve gone through, it just really feels like an adventure, a journey, a ride.”
She collaborated with Drake on a track that she recorded for Aquarius, and has been in the studio with hitmakers including Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Hit-Boy, Travi$ Scott, Nic Nac, Dev Hynes, and Boi-1da, who produced the first single “Party Favors.”
“‘Party Favors” is one of my favorites,” says Tinashe, “and that will be the first song that we will drop within the next week or so, and it’ll be the first taste of the album everyone will get which is exciting. It’s a very in-your-face first impression.”
Like her debut, she recorded some of Joyride in her home bedroom in between tour dates with Nicki Minaj. “A big part of it was the focus going into it, which was that we weren’t going to make a lot of songs, and it wasn’t going to be so experimental. We definitely knew what we wanted going in, and we were a lot more efficient in achieving it. I have so much other stuff going on that we really didn’t have any other options!”
She describes the album, due in November, as “inspiring, exciting, dangerous, adventurous, explosive!”
