Ann Marie drops off her Pretty Psycho (Album). Available for download and streaming, she lists an eleven song project ready for your listening pleasure. The singer-rapper along with a new class of singers like Ella Mai and Jacquees, offers an alternative, a sound modeled on the upbeat singers of the late ’90s and early 2000s rather than the dystopian haze put forward more recently.
Originally from Englewood, a neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago, she has released several projects since 2017, including a self-titled release that included her single “In My Feelings,” followed by the mixtapes “Unfuckwitable,” “Tripolar” and most recently “Tripolar 2.”
“Secret,” featuring YK Osiris, is her most prominent hit to date. Since January, the video has reached over 21 million views.
The Interscope Records signee’s straightforward confessions about daily romance is a compelling about-face, and a reminder that the most refreshing R&B in the room isn’t always the most ambitious. Sometimes it’s the honesty that cuts through.
