Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, populary known as Phyno, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. He was born on 9 October 1986 in Enugu State. The name Phyno is derived from the word ‘phenomenal’, the nickname given to him by one of his high school friends named Emeka. Phyno developed an interest for music production during his secondary school days. He initially wanted to become a pilot, but was told that he could be a doctor.
Throughout high school, he learned to play the drums and piano. He also learned to create his own rendition of every recording he heard. He studied public administration at the Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu, and started profiting from music during his second year at IMT. Phyno told Ifeoma Onoye that Mr. Raw is one of the few people he looks up to.
Recall that when Phyno and Hushpuppi were at each others neck when the latter accused Phyno of patronizing fake luxury items, the indigenous rapper stated some things he has done for his family. The “If To Say” crooner in a chat with Sunday Scoop, set the record straight while also giving his opinion about the ostentatious display of wealth.
“It is very childish to brag about what I have. I care more about touching lives in positive ways. It is not really about how much you have in your bank account but how many people’s lives you have made better. The good thing is that I have a track record and people know what I do. So it doesn’t really make sense for me to be exchanging words with someone who just came from nowhere and has no credibility whatsoever.”
