Piers Morgan has called for the trolls who sent racist abuse to Marcus Rashford to be fined.
The Good Morning Britain host called the messages ‘absolutely disgusting’ and argued those behind them needed to be ‘taken to the cleaners.’
Piers launched a campaign to name and shame the ‘yobs, thugs and criminals’ who were behind the anonymous social media profiles.
He said their actions were particularly abhorrent as Manchester United star Rashford has done ‘so much to help the most impoverished kids in this country get fed.’
Kate Garraway admits not knowing if Derek can recover has had dramatic impact on her.
“They were white kids and brown kids and every form of child because he does not discriminate,” argued Piers.
Piers, 55, then took aim at social media companies for failing to ‘do their duty’ by finding and exposing the culprits.
The presenter, who is an often outspoken presence on Twitter, demanded that everyone who uses social media should be forced to give their real name, photo and identify their employer to prevent people from hiding behind anonymous accounts.
“When you catch these people take them to court and fine them £100,000 each time. Let’s take them to the cleaners financially.
“Let me tell you – it stops in a month. We have got to get a grip on this,” he fired.
Piers’ co-host Susanna Reid said she was in complete agreement.
She called the racist abuse: “Absolutely sickening, totally disgusting and actually criminal.”
On Saturday night Marcus Rashford said he had been subjected to “humanity and social media at its worst” after being sent racist abuse on Instagram.
The 22-year-old said he received the messages after United’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal.
“I’m a black man and I live every day proud that I am,” he said on Twitter.
“No-one, or no one comment, is going to make me feel any different. So sorry if you were looking for a strong reaction, you’re just simply not going to get it here.
“I’m not sharing screenshots. It would be irresponsible to do so and as you can imagine there’s nothing original in them.
“I have beautiful children of all colours following me and they don’t need to read it. Beautiful colours that should only be celebrated.”
