Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, Good Morning Britain hosts, have sent their well wishes to Captain Sir Tom Moore, 100, who has been hospitalised with Covid after needing some assistance breathing.

Piers, who interviewed the veteran on his Life Stories show, said: “All our very best wishes to go Captain Sir Tom Moore, and his family, after the terrible news yesterday that he has been admitted to hospital.

“He had pneumonia for a few weeks, we are told by the family in a statement, and has now tested positive for Covid-19.”

Susanna said: “His daughter released a statement saying, ‘He was at home with us until today, [Sunday], when he needed additional help with his breathing.

“He is being treated in a ward although he is not in intensive care, the medical care he has received in the last few weeks has been remarkable and we know that the wonderful staff at Bedford hospital will do all they can to make him comfortable and hopefully return home as soon as possible.

“We understand that everyone will be wishing him well. We are of course focusing on my father and will update you when we are able to. Hannah.’”

Piers Morgan rages ‘you’re behaving like a Tory’ at Labour MP in tense row.

Piers said: “Well, he’s a tough cookie Sir Captain Tom Moore, we know that, he came through World War II and he came through a serious bout himself with ill health, which is why he was so respectful and grateful to the NHS which caused him to do his walk which raised all the money.

“So once again, reliant on the NHS who have done so much to help.”

Susanna remarked: “Legendary fundraising, he raised more than £30million for NHS Charities Together.”

“I am sure he is getting probably the best care any human being could possibly get right now,” said Piers.

Susanna replied: “Well the best thing about the NHS is everybody gets the best care they possibly could.”

Piers added: “I had an exchange with Hannah last night, sent our very best wishes, she said she was able to tell Tom and that he smiled and was grateful for all the messages he was getting from all over the world.”
