Director Francis Ford Coppola Is Re-Releasing The Godfather: Part III With A Brand New Ending.

Paramount Pictures has confirmed that they are working on a new edit and a restoration of the final instalment of Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather trilogy.

The film, which debuted 40 years ago, will be re-released in cinemas this December under a new title, Mario Puzo’s The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone.

In a statement, Coppola said: “Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone is an acknowledgement of Mario’s and my preferred title and our original intentions for what became The Godfather: Part III.

“For this version of the finale, I created a new beginning and ending, and rearranged some scenes, shots and music cues. With these changes and the restored footage and sound, to me, it is a more appropriate conclusion to The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II and I’m thankful to Jim Gianopulos and Paramount for allowing me to revisit it.”

The third movie in The Godfather trilogy was released 16 years after The Godfather: Part II and starred Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire and Coppola’s daughter Sofia.
