A handwritten letter from Taylor Swift to a gay fan of hers has gone viral on Twitter. The letter, which was sent to PhD student Andrew Mooney, commended him for his “bravery” in “choosing to live and love… even when it isn’t easy”.
A photo of the letter, shared by the recipient, has since been “liked” more than 20,000 times.
Swift began by congratulating Mooney on finishing his studies, before writing: “This is EPIC!! I saw how supportive you’ve been of my music over the years and was so touched.
“Thank you so much. I’m also so proud of you for the bravery you’ve shown in your personal life, choosing to live and love honestly even when it isn’t easy.

In 2019, the artist explained to Vogue: “Rights are being stripped from basically everyone who isn’t a straight white cisgender male.”
“I didn’t realise until recently that I could advocate for a community that I’m not a part o
Her 2019 song “You Need to Calm Down” directly addressed homophobia and internet trolling, and was praised by many in the LGBT+ community.
