Harry Maguire Is Facing Additional Charges Of Attempted Bribery.
Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire is facing additional charges of attempted bribery alongside claims of assault as he goes on trial in court on Tuesday morning
The 27-year-old’s trial will go ahead in Greece on Tuesday morning as the incident is discussed in court, but Maguire himself will not be present for the proceedings.
According to the Mirror, Greek court documents show that as well as facing allegations of assaulting a police officer, he is also facing allegations of attempted bribery.
His brother is also facing both charges, and a third man is just looking at a charge of assault.
The former Leicester defender is back in the UK having traveled over the weekend, and he will not need to be in attendance for the hearing on the island of Syros today.
Although his involvement in the altercation is not yet clear, he has pleaded not guilty.
In addition, Maguire is set to miss out on Gareth Southgate’s first England squad of the season after he was arrested during his holiday.
Maguire had become a key part of Southgate’s squad during his time with Leicester, and his leadership role at United is likely to have furthered his position in the international squad.
An official United statement on the situation said: “Following the appearance in court today we note the adjournment of the case to allow the legal team to consider the case file.
“Harry has pleaded not guilty to the charges. It would be inappropriate for the player or club to comment further while the legal process takes its course.”
The original statement from Hellenic Police’s South Aegean press office reads: “Three foreigners, aged 27, 28 and 29, were arrested today in Mykonos by police officers of the Mykonos police department.
“Patrolling police officers in the area intervened and normalised a dispute between citizens, however, three foreigners involved in the incident turned against them, insulting and hitting a police officer with fists.
“The three foreigners were taken to the Mykonos Police Station, where upon their arrival they strongly resisted, pushing and beating three police officers.
“One of the detainees then tried to offer money so that the trial against them would not be completed. The arrested were taken to the Syros Prosecutor’s Office.”
