Goodrem Has Lost Her Speech Ability After Surgery Complications.
Delta Goodrem has opened up about her loss of speech control following surgery complications, saying she needed “months of rehabilitation with daily speech therapy”.
In an emotional six-minute video shared on social media, the 35-year-old opened up about her secret health battle that saw her lose the ability to control her speech after she had her salivary gland removed in 2018.
“I wanted to share my story and say why I hadn’t had music out for so long and why this song and why I wrote it,” Goodrem says in the video.
“It’s been a strange process not actually sharing it straight away but I just didn’t know if I was ready yet.”
The Australian singer explained how complications from the operation led to the paralysis of a nerve in her tongue.
“I don’t want to go out,” she says through tears. “I’m super embarrassed… I’m just over it.”
“My livelihood is my sound.”
Goodrem revealed she went into months of rehabilitation and says she doesn’t think her speech will ever be back to the way it was.
“This is bizarre, it just gets really tiring trying to get your brain to talk to your tongue,” she said.
“This has been a little bit harder than I expected but all is going to be ok.”
The video ends with a handwritten note from the singer, thanking her doctors and nurses.
