With her last single All The Ways dropped, Trainor announced her new album with its pre-order and the single release. Available for download and streaming, the album holds 15 songs.
Prominently influenced by the 1950s and 1960s eras in music, Trainor’s music has been noted for its retro style aesthetic. Common themes in her lyrics include subjects of modern womanhood, body image, and empowerment.
In 2016, Trainor won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Her second major release Thank You was released in 2016, preceded by its lead single “No” which peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2017, Trainor released the single “I’m a Lady”, which appeared in the animated film Smurfs: The Lost Village.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Trainor stated that her third studio album had been completed, and added that “it’s really special, my entire family sings on every song and Daryl sings on every song.
My father plays the piano and organs on one song.” She then revealed on her Instagram on February 24, 2018 that the lead single off the album is called “No Excuses”, and teased that the song and its music video would be released on March 1, 2018. Trainor later announced the music video for “Let You Be Right” and its release date on May 10, 2018.
The album was originally scheduled for release on August 31, 2018. The singer announced on Instagram that she’s pushing back the release date, in order to add new songs to it.
“I got engaged to the love of my life, Daryl! I got to hang out with Diddy, DJ Khaled and Fergie on [the Fox singing competition] The Four, and I released five new songs that I’m absolutely obsessed with.”
She continues, “I’m in such an amazing place and I can’t stop writing songs… I’ve decided to move my new album TREAT MYSELF until I get everything out of my head and recorded in the studio.
