The Late Tupac Shakur on the 7th of April will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame described Tupac Shakur “an international symbol of resistance and outlaw spirit, an irresistible contradiction, and a definitive rap anti-hero.”

The late rapper is being celebrated for his posthumous influence on rap music. Shakur will be the sixth rapper to be voted into the Hall of Fame come Friday as it marks it 30 years anniversary.

Shakur’s career as a rapper lasted for just five years as he was shot dead in 1996.

Rap too has evolved, becoming the second most popular music genre in the U.S. after rock, reflecting and challenging social inequities in its lyrics and music videos, and inspiring symposiums at prestigious universities such as Harvard.

Shakur has sold 75 million albums, mostly from seven posthumous releases, and although his sales figures will never match those of 21st century hip hop kings like Drake, Kanye West and The Weeknd, his influence remains profound.
