Manchester City have an opportunity to showcase their title credentials and close the gap on leaders Chelsea with a second derby victory of the season on Tuesday night.

Manchester United were beaten 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium in September as David Moyes endured a difficult start to his reign, and the pressure has continued to be relentless for the past six months.

At no stage have United looked like defending their Premier League crown and, with eight games of the season still to play, even a top-four finish looks out of reach.

Messi will be worlds best paid – Barca president

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has insisted that Lionel Messi will become the world’s highest paid footballer once negotiations over his new contract are finalised.

The four-time World Player of the Year has a contract with the Catalan giants until 2018, but Bartomeu said talks were on-going with the player’s father and principal agent Jorge Horacio Messi over a deal that would surpass the five-year contract Cristiano Ronaldo signed with Real Madrid in September last year.

US sending more troops, aircraft to hunt Ugandan warlord Kony

President Obama is committing more military resources, including aircraft and special operations forces, to the hunt for notorious African warlord Joseph Kony.

Early Monday, the White House confirmed a Washington Post report that the U.S. was sending “associated support personnel,” and a “limited number” of CV-22 Osprey aircraft to assist local forces in their long-running battle against Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army, or LRA. Obama sent about 100 U.S. troops to help the African forces in 2011.

I’ll make a donation to charity if Chelsea win the Champions League – Mourinho

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, has downplayed his side’s chances in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals against Paris Saint-Germain and added that he would make a donation to charity, if his team overcome the Ligue 1 champions and go on to win the trophy.

“I believe that PSG will be very happy to play against us,” Mourinho told the media after Chelsea’s 6-0 victory over Arsenal.

“Everyone wanted us, therefore they must be happy to be drawn against us and we are happy because we we want to compete against the best. It is important for our evolution both as a team as an individual, notably for our young players.”

Gibbs and Oxlade-Chamberlain available for Swansea game after FA meeting

Arsenal duo of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs, will be available for their match against Swansea on Tuesday, after the Football Association held a meeting with the club.

Gibbs was wrongfully shown a red card during the Gunners’ 6-0 loss at Stamford Bridge, after Oxlade-Chamberlain handled Eden Hazard’s effort on the line.

“An Independent Regulatory Commission today heard two claims from Arsenal, one of mistaken identity and the other of wrongful dismissal, both in relation to Saturday’s game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge,” An FA statement read.
