Cristiano Ronaldo reacts to throwing armband in anger after Euro 2020 exit

Cristiano Ronaldo has provided his reaction to Portugal’s Euro 2020 exit having been knocked out of the tournament in disappointing style.
Portugal were listed as one of the favourites to come out on top at the competition, but were unable to defend their European Championships crown after losing 1-0 to Belgium in the Round of 16.

The Juventus forward remains the leading goalscorer at Euro 2020 with five goals to his name, though is being closely followed by Czech Republic striker Patrick Schick (4).
Ronaldo missed the opportunity to surpass Ali Daei’s record as the all-time scorer at international level on Sunday evening, with the pair currently tied on 109 goals.

Ronaldo was visibly distressed at the full-time whistle on Sunday evening and was pictured throwing his captain’s armband to the floor in rage.

The 36-year-old has since taken time to cool down after losing his temper and has reflected on Portugal’s Euro 2020 journey coming to an end.

“We didn’t get the result we wanted and we left the race sooner than we wanted,” Ronaldo wrote on Instagram.
“But we are proud of our journey, we gave everything to renew the title of European Champions and this group proved that it can still give much joy to the Portuguese.

“We ran and fought for them, in order to live up to the trust they placed in us.
“It was not possible to get where we all wanted, but here is our sincere and profound thanks.

“Congratulations to Belgium and good luck to all the teams that remain in the competition. As for us, we will come back stronger. Forca Portugal!”
