Download Festival 2021 Cancelled – For The Second Year In A Row

Download Festival 2021 has been cancelled yet again for the second year in a row.

The annual metal festival, which takes place in June and attracts up to 100,000 people from across the world, has been called off amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Fans have shared their disappointment online after it was announced on Monday that the spectacular lineup of music acts will not perform on stage this year.

The much-loved festival was set to take place in Donington Park and was set to feature headliners Kiss, Biffy Clyro, and System Of A Down.

Other acts including Deftones, KORN, Steel Panther and The Distillers, were also expected to rock out on the main stage.

Festival organisers have now announced that tickets will still go on sale on March 5, but the festival will now take place in 2022.

In a statement released on Monday, organisers said they did everything in their power to make the show go on this year, but unfortunately, it just “wasn’t possible”.

“We never gave up hope of bringing the festival back to Donington this June and have been working so hard behind the scenes to make that happen – but we now know it’s not possible,” the statement read.

“We’re heartbroken for everyone in the Download family, from artists to suppliers and of course, our passionate Download fans.”

It went on: “We want to thank the NHS for rolling out the vaccine, as well as thanking you all for your patience and for keeping the spirit of Download alive until we can be together again.

“You are very welcome to retain your ticket and carry it over to next year.

“Alternatively, you can receive a refund from your ticket agent. Horns up, we will see you in 2022.”

The 2022 festival will kick off from June 10 to June 12 and fans will be delighted to learn that 2021 headliners Kiss and Biffy Clyro will still headline, along with Maiden.

It comes just weeks after festival organisers announced that Glastonbury’s 50th anniversary plans – first scheduled to go ahead in 2020 – have been postponed again until 2022.
