Cardi B Explains To Fans Why She Never Submitted WAP To Be Considered For A Grammy

Cardi B has explained to fans why she never submitted WAP to be considered for a Grammy.

Cardi added: “Like I said, I never pressed for a Grammy, but y’all not going to take away something that I know I worked my a** off – that I deserve.”

She went on to say that if she was ‘pressed for a Grammy’ she would have submitted WAP but decided against it and instead wait until her album is released.

She added: “I didn’t want to be submitted to award shows until I put out my album because I think my album is so good.

“It means something, I worked on it a lot. I’ve worked on it for almost two years.
“Some songs are just so emotional to me, because I did them during quarantine.”

And just because it’s not entered this time around, doesn’t mean WAP, featuring Megan Thee Stallion, can’t be submitted next year.

According to Grammy rules a song released during ‘the previous eligibility period may be entered in certain categories provided the track was not entered in any category the previous year and provided the album did not win a Grammy’.

Cardi already has one Grammy amongst her ever-growing collection of awards – she picked up the Best Rap Album with Invasion of Privacy in 2019.

Earlier this year, Cardi, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, explained the difficult – and incredibly costly – process involved with making a music video during a pandemic.

Speaking to i-D, she said: “It was kind of weird shooting the video in the age of corona.

“Like, we had to spend $100,000 dollars just on testing. Everybody on the shoot had to get tested for coronavirus.

“We had a tiger and a leopard there but we didn’t film with them in there because of safety and because of the pandemic.

We spliced those scenes together.”
Still at least it paid as the song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
