‘Wonder’ is the follow-up to Mendes’ self-titled third album, which dropped in 2018. In a statement posted across his social media accounts, Mendes explained his inspiration for writing the album to his legion of fans.
Releasing the official album title track, the new single also arrives with a music video. Directed by Matty Peacock, the special effects-filled epic finds our hero standing on top of a moving train and emoting cliff-side.
“I wonder if I’m being real, do I speak my truth or do I filter how I feel?” the Canadian pop star begins. “I wonder, wouldn’t it be nice to live inside a world that isn’t black and white?” That takes us to the loved-up chorus.
Initially confirmed by radio personality Elvis Duran, Shawn announced the song on 30 September 2020, following with a teaser video consisting the album’s intro. A “Wonder Virtual Live Event” was being held before the premiere of the song’s visuals.
