The O2 Academy Brixton Is To Reopen For Live-Streamed Tom Grennan Gig In October.b
Tom Grennan will be the first artist to perform at O2 Academy Brixton since the venue was forced to close its doors due to coronavirus.
Grennan, known for hits Found What I’ve Been Looking For and This Is The Place, will perform a virtual live gig to fans on October 2. He was set to perform a headline gig at the venue – which famously hosted Iron Maiden, The Clash, The Prodigy, Bob Dylan, Madonna, and Diana Ross – in May, which was cancelled due to the pandemic.
The singer will perform a set of hits and new material created over lockdown during the gig, which will be live-streamed from the venue using state-of-the-art virtual reality technology. It will be broadcast via the Melody VR app.
Speaking to the Standard, Brennan said rehearsals for the show had been an “emotional experience”.
“It’s weird at the moment. It doesn’t smell like Brixton or feel like it at the moment – it’s just not had anyone in there for a while. Hopefully I can help breathe some life back in to it. It’s going to be a wicked gig.”
Grennan, who had his break as the vocalist on Chase and Status’ track All Goes Wrong, admitted he was “nervous” ahead of the performance. “Usually I use my voice every day, especially when I am on tour. So its a bit like going back to the gym. I am a bit out of practice. But I’m excited.”
