Five Substitutions In La Liga Matches Will Continue This Season.

The RFEF have agreed so five changes will be permitted, but they will have to made in three windows (half-time does not count as a window). 23 man squads will also be allowed to be named for games instead of 18 for another season.

Three or five subsitutions? The Spanish FA were thinking of returning to three, but La Liga asked for five. That is what Isaac Fouto said and so the rules could be altered.

After ‘Cadena COPE’ said that the plan was to return to three substitutions in La Liga and Segunda this season, journalist Isaac Fouto said that La Liga had asked the Spanish FA (RFEF) to allow the five sub rule to continue at the club’s request. The Spanish FA have agreed to it.

The reason is so that managers have more options on the bench depending on how the game is going and possible coronavirus outbreaks mean that some players may be unavailable.

Five changes will remain, more young players will get a chance and players will have more chance of keeping fit in what will be a packed 2020-21 campaign.
