Black Milk recruits BJ The Chicago Kid for his new single titled If U Say . The song seems to be addressing nostalgia, and the thoughts of wanting to “level up,” and hearing “you the one” from others, until finally finding success. Blessed by BJ’s soothing vocals on the hook, the Detroit rapper and producer memorializes his accomplishments on this self-produced reflection.
Black Milk explains what listeners should anticipate from the record and his process moving forward, “DiVE represents me looking ahead at 2020. Stepping into this new decade, I want to have a mentality of progression. Once 2020 clicks in, I want to leave a lot of my old ways, traditions, and mentalities behind. I’m always going to have my standard and aesthetic. That’s why I’m not really afraid to step outside of any box because my taste will always keep me grounded.”
While my old hood’s boarded up and abandoned / Damn, everything from before seems gone now / So, I put the memories in a song now / With a melody they can sing along now / I ain’t thinking ’bout what a ni**a wan’ do / I be thinking ’bout everything I’m gon’ do / New me lookin’ back at the old you, on do.”
His last full album, Fever, was released last year, and debuted as his first full release since 2014’s There’s a Hell Below.
