Selena Gomez’s “Fetish” with Gucci Mane music video is finally here just days after the singer’s 26th birthday. After weeks of social media teasing, the Petra Collins-directed music video is just as creepy-cool as earlier clips would lead us to expect.

Here, a soaking-wet Gomez clad in a pale yellow sun-dress engages in a range of strange activities, from putting her tongue through an eyelash curler to hurling a grocery bag against the wall, eating what looks like gelatin and crawling over an elaborately-set dinner table. The majority of the visual is set in a suburban home, and gives off major Virgin Suicides-meets-Wild at Heart vibes.

JAY Z‘s “Bam” video from 4:44 is finally here, allowing those without a TIDAL subscription to watch the clip. Featuring Damian Marley and Sister Nancy, the visual accounts for the first from JAY’s recently-released album that he himself is actually showcased in.
The “Bam” video was shot in Jamaica, as it highlights Hov, Damian and Sister Nancy working on the collaborative track in the studio. The release follows up on 4:44 clips for “The Story of O.J.” and “4:44,” in addition to a video titled “Footnotes.”

The latest video from JAY-Z‘s new 4:44 album is here, and this time it’s for the intro, “Kill Jay Z. Watch it below. The clip is directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz.

In the visual, we see a young man, perhaps an iteration of young JAY-Z, running down what looks like an alley. He seems to be running from something, but we can’t see it, and at one point, the music slows down, cutting to a different show where we only see the kid’s face from his eyes up.

Remember Diddy and Drake having a beef and Diddy allegedly hitting Drake at a party at Fountainbleau in Miami? Well both men are past it now.

Sissy just hosted Drake’s OVO Sound Radio on Saturday (July 22) and premiered a new song with Biggie and Rick Ross called “Watcha Gon’ Do?” You can cop the song on iTunes or listen via Spotify below.

The song repurposes Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s classic single “Nuthin’ But a G Thang” as Diddy spits the first verse before you hear Biggie’s verse from “Hustler’s Story.” Ross bats third, finishing the song strong.

Diddy also took some time on the show to extoll the virtues of JAY-Z’s new album 4:44, calling it the best entry in Hov’s career and the best rap album of the year. Watch that footage below as well.

The key to successful promotion is creativity. The Internet has opened up endless opportunities for bands and artists to promote music. Adopt creative and unconventional strategies to build hype until your single drops.

Here are 5 ways to promote your upcoming release:

1. Adopt guerrilla marketing strategies

Guerrilla marketing involves low-cost unconventional marketing strategies that yield maximum results. Some of the most common guerrilla marketing strategies include distributing flyers, stickers or products, flash mobs, graffiti and viral videos. For your album launch, consider handing out flyers with QR codes. When people scan the QR code, they should be directed to your band’s website. You can put up an ad on Craiglist for a street team to execute your guerrilla marketing campaign. You can even involve your fans to help spread the word.

2. Organize contests or giveaways

Contests and giveaways are a great way to enhance visibility for your band and drive audience engagement. Organize contests around your album launch to generate hype. You can craft a post related to the album launch and ask fans to comment, like and share the post. You could even ask fans to write a short post on why they like your band. Choose the best answers and give away freebies such as merchandise or gig tickets. You can even organize a personal concert for the winner. For instance, Foo Fighters held a contest while promoting their album, Wasting Light. They turned up at the winner’s house and played a gig in the garage.

3. Release a free song

Release the best song from your album for free. This is a great way to build hype for your album. The idea is to tease fans with your best single so that they purchase your album. For instance Adele released Hello as a free single. This simple marketing strategy spiked her album sales to over 8 million copies. Serenade fans with your best single to get them longing for more.

4. Offer exclusives and premieres to music blogs

Popular music blogs tend to have large readerships. Get your album featured in these music blogs to enhance exposure. You can choose to offer exclusives or premiers. In case of exclusives, a particular blog will retain exclusive rights to feature your music for a designated duration. Premieres on the other hand, allow a blog to release your album before others. Blogs are a great way to get your music out to the public. Follow effective blogger outreach strategies to get popular blogs to feature you.

5. Get DJs to remix your music and play at clubs

Get in touch with DJs who regularly play at popular clubs in town. Request them to play a remix version of your album’s tracks. This way you can spread your music to a large number of people. Pick DJs who tend to remix tracks similar to yours. One way to incentivize a DJ to play your music is by bringing out a crowd of your fans and supporters to the club. Marketing is a two way street where give and take always works wonders.

Create Great Music.

Let’s be honest here; consumers aren’t stupid. They may not be music connoisseurs, but they certainly have musical tastes and an absurd amount of music discovery apps and website options to choose from. However, studies show that music discovery continues to be dominated by the radio. And we all know major recording artists dominate radio airplay–thanks to promotion departments with big budgets. But we also know that independent artists are selling records and indie artist are winning Awards. This is because their music is cutting through. Not because a shit load of blogs write about it, but because it’s great music that incites a response. Bad music is shit. Good music is tolerable. Great music incites response; and the response is repeat streams, evangelical shares and downloads.

Set A Release Date & Schedule Distribution.

One of the challenges upcoming artists face in building a release campaign is not giving themselves a sufficient amount of lead time to layout and execute the details of a plan. You need time to do all of the work involved with a release. Sometimes, you’re so excited about your new record that you post it up prematurely. This is fine if you have no intent to commercially release the record. However, if you do want to generate sales–and your fan base has not historically been quick buyers of your music–then you need time to start generating buzz and momentum. Most major labels spend no less than 8 to 16 weeks planning towards the release of a single. Sometimes they push the release date back if they have not reached certain goals by specific weeks (although this mostly happens for albums, and not singles). You should consider giving yourself no less than 6-12 weeks from the start of activating your campaign. Also, the release date you select can also be a factor in the success or failure of your release. Some parts of the year there are a lot of major artist releases. Therefore, radio play, blog features, press/media coverage is focused on these major releases. Holiday season (October-December) and Spring are two of the biggest seasons for major releases. However, there is discrepancy in the music industry on when is the “best” time for upcoming artists to release music. Some say that the Summer is solid, and that’s because of the major label hiatus (execs going on vacation) and the increase in music events such as summer concert series, indie music festivals, etc. While I agree that the summer months are much better than Holiday season in general, it’s a whole different story if you’re releasing a Holiday themed song. The bottom line is, selecting a release date is part smart and part timely. Once you’ve determined when you want to release, you need to schedule the distribution.

Set Reasonable Goals.

Now that all the “administrative work” is complete, it’s time to develop a plan and get to work. A good plan needs concrete goals. One of the ways to measure the effectiveness of a plan is to determine if you’ve reached or exceeded your initial goals. Too often, upcoming artists create music, throw it up on the Internet and are disappointed with the outcome. But, you may be selling yourself short by not setting reasonable goals in advance. In fact, you may have exceeded what the music ecosystem has determined as your demand/worth based on your existing support system. As an upcoming artist–even with no fan base–there are reasonable goals that you can set that have nothing to do with record sales. Your goal may be to earn X number of video views, or X number of music streams, or X number of shares, or X number of downloads (including free downloads).

Marketing & Promotion Planning.

Once you’ve set your goals, you need to think about how you plan to reach and exceed those goals. There are a number of approaches. I am a huge proponent of integrated marketing approaches. That is, tactics that overlap and contribute towards the impact of two or more goals. For example, if you have a video on YouTube, at the end of the video should be a download link for the song that was just played (use YouTube’s video editing features to embed links in videos). If you print up flyers and posters to promote upcoming gigs, include your social media links. To reach a goal for shares of a song; consider creating a “Share And Win” campaign on social media. The basic premise is that by sharing your song or flyer, the action represents an entry for the chance to win something such as a pre-release or tickets to an upcoming gig. A cool way to promote your upcoming release is by giving away a previous release or a record you do not intend to release. Check out SocialUnlock, which is a platform that lets you setup a campaign to give away music in exchange for social interactions (such as “Likes” and Shares). Also, look into securing radio airplay on a number of the independent radio sites. You want your song on air no less than 4 weeks before the release.
Line Up A Few Gigs.

When releasing new music, it’s helpful to perform the music in front of an audience prior to release. If the music is as great as you think, they’ll respond. If the response is not what you expect, you’ll have some food for thought in terms of continuing the journey towards a commercial release. Reaching out to local bars, nightclubs, small concert halls with upcoming artistes nights. You also might be able to secure gigs by directly contacting medium sized tour management companies and booking agencies and talking your way into opening up for a bigger act that’s coming to your city.

Seek And Secure Publicity.

There are an insane number of music blogs generating exposure for new music every day; connecting music lovers with upcoming artists. There are three basic types of publicity you want to secure and it’s a good idea to make this part of your goals. First, you want music reviews. If your music is great, the reviews will be amazing. If the reviews are negative, then you might have a rude awakening that will help you evaluate your music. Secondly, you want interviews. Often, music bloggers will simply send you a list of questions via email that you respond to and send back with a biography and discography and they take it from there. The third kind of publicity is features. Ideally, you want to be featured on the main page of the website/blog. Normally, the feature will include a photo and link to a post (either a review or interview). Most websites/blogs have a contact page. Find that page to submit your press release (oh yeah, you should probably write a press release) or click on the author of any given music post to locate the information of a specific writer. Another form of publicity is radio interviews. While it is incredibly difficult to get an interview with a mainstream radio station, it is not that difficult to get an interview with an independent or lesser known radio station. There are a number of independent terrestrial radio stations in and around major markets. Do some research and give them a call about setting up an interview. Also, many of the djs on mainstream radio stations have their own Internet radio shows. Reach out to them to see if you can set up an in-studio interview at their Internet radio show. The idea is to capture your interview on video and to post it on YouTube. Another publicity boaster is a Wikipedia page for your band. Hypebot explains how to get your brand on Wikiepedia.

Review And Adjust.

I know you may think the last step is a cop out to providing some useful information, but the reality is reviewing and adjusting efforts in the remaining weeks or days before a release can be the difference between good response and bad ones. You’ve worked your butt off. Celebrate with a single release party. You might offer fans a ticket to this single release party as part of the bundle when you’re gigging to raise awareness of your release.

After he made headlines earlier this week after a revealation to the world in a new interview with Jada Pinkett Smith that he’s suffering from a bad liver disease which has really upset his life and makes him feel “sick all the time” we are thankfully, the disease isn’t stopping August Alsina’s ability to record new music as he comes through tonight with a brand new single called “Don’t Matter.”

7 years later than we’d hoped, but it’s here non the less. T-Pain & Lil Wayne have combined forces to drop this 8 track ‘T-Wayne’ project

Over the years, there have been a bunch of Lil Wayne projects announced that never came into fruition like Devol, a love album he talked about a few years ago. But what’s really filling up the vault are the collaboration records which were supposed to come out.

We were supposed to hear Wayne and Drake right after Tha Carter IV and Take Care dropped, we were supposed to get the Juelz Santana I Can’t Feel My Face collab and perhaps one of the most anticipated, T-Wayne with T-Pain.
With all of the C5 controversy for the past couple of years, these projects have all pretty much fallen to the back of the line but earlier this evening on Twitter and Instagram, T-Pain posted an album cover (pictured above) and implied that he might put out the music soon. We’re not sure how this works with Wayne’s label situation but maybe it could come out for free or as a T-Pain album with Lil Wayne “featured” on every song, a la Collegrove.
