Presenter Vick Hope Is Set To Join BBC Radio 1 As The Co-Host Of Weekly Sunday Programme Life Hacks
Hope, 30, quit her presenting job at Capital Breakfast earlier this year. She will also helm The Official Chart: First Look on Sunday evenings, which previews the singles chart for the following week.
Life Hacks will see Hope and co-host Katie Thistleton discuss issues affecting young people, such as mental health, sex and careers.
Thistleton previously hosted the show alongside Cel Spellman, who will leave to focus on other commitments, including broadcasting and acting, but will remain part of Radio 1.
Announcing the news on Instagram, Hope wrote: “Joining the BBC Radio 1 family is an absolute dream come true. I grew up listening to Radio 1 religiously, and am honoured to present Life Hacks, a show that is so important to me and so many listeners.
“Right back since the days of The Surgery, I have loved listening to this weekly platform which so openly, honestly and thoroughly discusses issues affecting young people: from mental health and grief to education and careers, sex and relationships to racism.”
The announcement had been delayed by the sudden death of Capital producer Joe Lyons last week.
Hope alluded to Lyons in the Instagram post, saying that it had been an ”extremely tough time” and that ”processing this will take a while”.
She added: “I took a step away from social media last week, and when the Radio 1 schedule was announced it just didn’t feel right to be sharing news of any sort… But as Ro said in his tribute on Monday, the show must go on. This week has made me reflect on just how important radio is, and how much I love it.
“Radio is community, it is support, it is information, it is companionship, it is joy. I am so inspired by and grateful to the people who make it with passion, creativity and care for our listeners. Thank you in particular to my special friend, for whom radio was everything.”
Hope will start presenting on BBC Radio 1 on 6 September 2020.
