The amount of insults hurled at each other may just suggest bad blood had been flowing since their departure from Old Trafford. Or could it just be simple rivalry between two of Italy’s best centre forwards.
Anyway you look at it, everyone knows there has always been a rivalry between both milan clubs and this latest episode of on field theatrics adds to the raging fire of sports rivalry.
Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic clashed on the pitch at the end of the first half in Tuesday’s Coppa Italia quarter-final between AC Milan and Inter.
Footage of the two world-class strikers quite literally going head-to-head quickly went viral and football fans across social media.
Ibrahimovic’s ‘voodoo’ comment particularly angered Lukaku opponent.
Lukaku is reported to have replied: “F*** you and your wife, you want to speak about my mother?”
Both players were issued a yellow card, with Ibrahimovic later being sent off for receiving a second booking.
Lukaku could clearly be heard by the on-pitch microphone saying to the Swede: “Well let’s go inside you b*tch!”, in an invitation to engage in a further confrontation in the tunnel.
AC Milan had taken the lead through Ibrahimovic, who fired home in the 31st minute to open the scoring at San Siro.
Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli. Ibrahimovic stepped in and squared up to the furious Belgian, with the pair going head to head while exchanging heated words.
Christian Eriksen netted deep in stoppage time after coming off the bench to clinch the 2-1 victory for Inter.
AC Milan representatives told Sky Sport Italia that Ibrahimovic is denying any racial insult and that the ‘voodoo’ barb is believed to be in reference to an incident from 2018.
