Maren Morris, Mickey Guyton and Kelsea Ballerini are just three of the top country stars speaking out after Morgan Wallen was caught saying the N-word in a video.
The three female artists called out Morgan, who just recently won two awards at the CMA Awards and iHeartRadio Music Awards.
If you didn’t see, in the video that surfaced, Morgan is overheard using the N-word to describe one of his drunk friends after they arrive back at his Nashville house after a night out.
“The hate runs deep. Smfh,” Mickey, who is a notable Black country artist, tweeted after the video went viral. “This is not his first time using that ‘unacceptable’ racial slur and we all known that. So what exactly are y’all going to do about it? Crickets won’t work this time.
How many passes will you continue to give? Asking for a friend. No one deserves to be canceled [but] this is unacceptable.”
Maren and Kelsea also called out Morgan‘s actions, and agreed with fans that if a female artist had done that, she would’ve been dropped and outcasted from the country community almost immediately.
It actually IS representative of our town because this isn’t his first “scuffle” and he just demolished a huge streaming record last month regardless. We all know it wasn’t his first time using that word. We keep them rich and protected at all costs with no recourse.

yup. we’d be dropped, endorsements lost, social pariahs to music row…

Since the video went viral, Morgan has been dropped from his record label and iHeartRadio has pulled all of his music from their stations across the country.
I’m disgusted. What happened does NOT represent all of country music. “Sorry” is only as heavy as it’s actions weigh. Let’s see if it carries what it should in days to come. I believe in change, but not if it’s performative. Time for someone to read a fucking book.

I question on a daily basis as to why I continue to fight to be in an industry that seems to hate me so much. But then I realize there is a new artist of color, all bright eyed and excited to be in this industry.

I love country music so much. There are amazing people in this genre behind the scenes and in front of the cameras that have kept me sane all these years. Those are the people we must keep reminding ourselves are out there and worth supporting and listening to.
