RUNTOWN SETTLES LAWSUIT WITH HIS RECORD LABEL

Afro-pop singer Runtown, real name Douglas Jack Agu, has finally reached an agreement with his record label, Ericmany Limited.

Recall that last month, the Lagos to Kampala singer was slammed with an injunction by his label which prevented him from performing at any event or recording any music for the time being unless it has been first approved by them.

The label had accused Runtown of signing up for and attending musical shows without their knowledge despite the fact that they still held the copyright to all his music. The 26-year-old singer had, however, responded with a counter-suit claiming the label’s boss Prince Okwudili Umenyiora had been making incessant threats to his life and career and had even pulled out a gun on him at some point.

Now, The Net exclusively reports that the messy feud between Runtown and his label has been settled out of court and a new agreement has been reached. After a court hearing on June 14, 2016, in New York, both parties have agreed that Runtown will remain with the label for one more year but on the basis that his contract will be that of a partnership which gives him more control. He is also reportedly set to float his own record label called ‘Power In The Music’ (PITM).
