NEW MUSIC: Mario – “I Need More”

After releasing the Rick Ross-assisted song “Forever” last year, and then sharing the title and cover for his forthcoming album Never 2 Late, we’ve been expecting more from R&B singer Mario.

Now, after teasing the song all week, the Baltimore native returns with his brand new single “I Need More,” and reveals a new album is on the way instead.

Over hard-hitting production, Mario sings about “f*cking up some commas” and needing “more than these bottles.” The trap style single is edgy and perhaps a sign of what’s to come on his forthcoming independent LP, Paradise Cove.

The album marks a new stage in Mario’s career, one that he feels is providing more freedom in his music. “I found myself having to face my own darkness in order to step into the next phase of my purpose,” he said. “It inspired certain sounds and textures that you wouldn’t get from a label-produced Mario album.

“We were able to create a concept, lyrically and sonically, that expresses exactly what I was feeling: the void,” he continued. “Even in the midst of manifesting our wildest desires and material gains, it still ain’t enough. You need more: truth, love, happiness, freedom.”

In addition to releasing the single, Mario stopped by Hot 97 for an interview with Ebro In The Morning. During their convo he talks about his Mom, failed relationships, new music, and compares himself to Chris Brown, Migos and Drake.
