The two superstars join forces for their first ever collab, an upbeat banger that will have you moving and grooving on the dance floor in no time.
Speaking of how the song came to be, Tommy states, “Fresh from a panchakarma retreat involving hours of meditation, yoga and an 11-day fast, I found myself in a very clear, self-reflective, peaceful state. The weeks that followed were some of the most productive of my life. I composed dozens and dozens of piano pieces, where the origins of the ‘Tectonic’ instrumental were formed. Fast forward 18 months, I sent a few sketches through to Kiesza. ‘Tectonic’ was the one she connected with and I’m speechless at the lyricism and melodies she brought to the table. From the moment I heard the first demo over FaceTime, it was an immediate YES!”
Kiesza adds, “I started the idea for ‘Tectonic’ on a grand piano at my mom’s home. She wanted me to help set the table for dinner while I was in the flow of writing the song, and I didn’t want to lose the song that was coming to me. I kept on writing and she got really mad at me afterwards. It was totally worth it though, I’m so proud of these lyrics. When I write, I go into a trance and if I snap out of it, sometimes I lose the whole idea. This song barely made it to me from the ether, but I’m so happy I held onto it. It wasn’t completely finished and when Tommy sent me an idea to write over, the song came back into my head from my memory and finished itself over his track. It’s amazing the journey that creativity takes. It’s such a unique song, with such a blend of mysterious darkness over the upbeat and driving house production.”
