Arsenal's David Luiz offers damning one-word assessment of red card at Wolves

David Luiz has hit out referee Craig Pawson’s decision to send him off in Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at Wolves.

With the Gunners leading 1-0 through a Nicolas Pepe goal, Luiz was dismissed on the stroke of half-time after a tangle with Willian Jose in the penalty area, with the new Wolves forward looking primed to score.

Ruben Neves subsequently netted from the penalty spot, with Joao Moutinho then firing a brilliant winner for Wolves in the second period.

Luiz made his displeasure clear on his Instagram Story after the match, simply using the word “Unbelievable” as he reflected on a defeat that saw the Gunners miss the chance to go sixth in the Premier League.

Arsenal also saw Bernd Leno sent off in the second half after he handled the ball outside of the area, and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was left fuming with officials.

On Luiz’s red card he said: “It was a big decision that changed the game and if they can justify that they got it right then I will hold up my hands and apologise,” said the livid Gunners boss.

“But I’ve seen the replay 10 times now and I’m sitting here and I still can’t see any contact.

“I would like to see if VAR have got a different angle and have seen something I can’t see. I’m watching it expecting to see something but I can’t.

“Of course it changed the game. We’ve had to play half the game without David. We dominated the first half and could have been three or four goals up.

“But it’s the way we lost that really hurts. It’s painful. It’s hard enough to win games in the Premier League without that happening.”
