Víctor Font has defended Messi following the controversy about him.
Víctor Font, candidate for the Barcelona presidency, came out in defence of Leo Messi after the figures for the latest renewal signed by the Argentine in 2017 were revealed.
Leo Messi has become the protagonist of the day even before playing against Athletic Club. The FC Barcelona player has been in the spotlight following a report in ‘El Mundo’ which revealed the contract signed by the star in 2017 with the Catalan side.
It amounts to 555 million euros, of which Leo has already pocketed some 511 million. A dizzying figure that partly explains the serious economic situation in which the Catalan side find themselves and which once again casts doubt on Leo’s permanence at the club.
Despite this, after learning of the revelation, Víctor Font wanted to come to the defence of the Rosario star and argue that the amount that the ’10’ has pocketed over the years is more than deserved.
“Leo Messi has earned every last euro that Barcelona have paid him. He has not ruined us. On the contrary. He is the best player in history and we want him to stay with us forever,” said the ‘culé’ presidential.
