The singer-songwriter and actress initially broke through with roles on Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark in 2016 and Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in 2019.
The song tells the tale of a young girl who finally gets her driver’s license and drives around crying, reminiscing about a lost love. Rodrigo’s lyrics explore her insecurities and the way she’s still haunted by the former love.
“And I know we weren’t perfect but I’ve never felt this way for no one,” Rodrigo sings. “I just can’t imagine how you could be so okay now that I’m gone.”
The song was teased several times before its release in January of 2021. On July 23, 2020, Olivia posted a snippet of the song on Instagram with the caption “wrote dis the other day. vv close to my heart. gonna call it drivers license I think lol.”
