Mai cowrote the track with Varren Wade and it was produced by Boi-1da, Jahaan Sweet and The Rascals. “Thank you for your patience. We back baby,” she captioned an Instagram post announcing the song’s release date.
The song sees Ella deliver those perfect harmonies over a smooth beat supplied by Boi-1da, Jahaan Sweet & The Rascals. Ella’s self-titled debut album, which topped Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart in 2018.
Her Grammy-winning single, “Boo’d Up” tied for the longest-running #1 song by women on Billboard’s R&B/HipHop Airplay chart since 1992 and landed on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in both the U.S. and the U.K. The multi-platinum-selling song put Mai on the map, peaking at No.5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the Hot R&B Songs chart (making Mai the first British artist to hit No.1 on the US chart since 1992). A remix, featuring Nicki Minaj and Quavo, soon followed.
She is also set to perform on Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty Vol. 2 Show, which premieres on Amazon Prime today so watch out for that as well.
