Kai Havertz set challenge by Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta after hat-trick.

The German was at full throttle as he scored his first three goals for the club in a thumping 6-0 Carabao Cup win over Barnsley.

His first came after 28 minutes as he picked up a loose ball in the penalty box before Tammy Abraham flicked back to him in the second half.

And the hat-trick was secured on 65 minutes, running clear before nutmegging the goalkeeper and poking into an open net.

And it saw captain Azpilicueta, making his first start of the season, send a message to his new team-mate on social media.

And they don’t seem keen on slowing down yet. one player who continues to be linked with the Blues is West Ham and England midfielder Declan Rice.

Havertz shared snaps of the win on Twitter channel while adding: “So happy about my first gaols.”

The Blues captain responded in the comments urging the 21-year-old to build on his achievement, with: “More to come.”

Frank Lampard was also impressed with the midfielder, who had struggled in his first two games at the club.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, the manager said: “It was a great exercise for him, another game to see how we want to work off the ball, but also have freedom on the ball and combinations with Tammy [Abraham].

“It’s the first of many great nights for him.”

While Havertz shared his thoughts on grabbing the first goals of his Blues career in the Carabao Cup.

He said: ‘I’m very happy to score my first goal here at Chelsea, I’m very happy about the win and happy about my three goals and I hope we can continue like that.”

The £70m midfielder had suffered criticism for his games against Brighton and Liverpool, with some suggesting his place would be at risk when Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech return from injury.
