Thiago Silva Officially Joins Chelsea On Free Transfer

Thiago Silva Has Officially Joined Chelsea On Free Transfer.

Chelsea have signed Thiago Silva on a two-year contract, having left PSG to join Frank Lampard’s side on a free transfer, and the Brazilian will see his wages half at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Thiago Silva on a free transfer, with the Brazilian set to bring plenty of experience to the squad.

PSG ’s former captain departed the Parc des Princes after his contract expired this summer.

And the Blues won the race for his signature, handing him a two-year deal in west London.

Silva’s arrival follows Wednesday’s announcement that left-back Ben Chilwell had joined from Leicester for £50m.

Frank Lampard is splashing the cash ahead of the 2020/21 season getting underway in just over a fortnight.

Kai Havertz is still expected to complete his switch from Bayer Leverkusen in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech already teamed up with their new Chelsea colleagues earlier this summer.

Chelsea have money to spend after they were banned from making signings last year.

And they have still managed to keep their wage structure secure despite the array of new faces at Stamford Bridge.

Silva, who could take the captain’s armband from Cesar Azpilicueta, was on £220,000-a-week at PSG.

But it is believed the 35-year-old centre-half will be earning half that figure at Chelsea.

Instead, Silva will receive £110,000-a-week, which does not put him in line with the club’s top-paid players.

Speaking after his arrival, the defender said: “I am so happy to be joining Chelsea. I am delighted to be a part of Frank Lampard’s exciting squad for next season and I’m here to challenge for honours.

“See you soon Chelsea fans, I look forward to playing at Stamford Bridge very soon.”

Marina Granovskaia added: “We are delighted to be able to add a player of Thiago Silva’s proven world-class credentials to our squad.

“Having performed at the highest level for many years, we have no doubt his experience and quality will complement the many exciting talents we already have here.”
