The 45-year-old television presenter is set to travel across the UK to visit historical locations to re-examine the lessons taught in schools from a different perspective.

‘This Morning’ star Alison Hammond will front a new documentary explore black history in Britain for ITV.

‘Alison Hammond: Back To School’ will see the star visit key places like from Hadrian’s Wall and Hampton Court to shine a light on black figures that have been overlooked in schools.

ITV revealed: “Alison will be given an insight into the significance of black people in Britain’s history by experts who open her eyes to a new perspective on our country’s past and will explore our current teaching of history in schools.”

As part of Black History Month – which takes place throughout October – ITV have commissioned three original programmes to celebrate black culture and prominent figures.

Airing on the small screen, viewers can look forward to comedy panel show ‘Sorry, I Didn’t Know’, documentary series ‘Black Comedy Legends’ and children’s studio show ‘Charlene and Friends’.

News of Alison’s documentary comes after the ‘This Morning’ reporter – who has a 15-year-old son called Aiden – was left in tears following the tragic death of George Floyd in May.

She said at the time: “Firstly, I am a mother of a 15-year-old black boy. When I saw that image of George Floyd, I saw, my brothers, my father and I saw my son, and I was disgusted to my core.

“It hurt me to the pit of my stomach to think this is 2020 and we are seeing that and let’s be honest, this has been going on forever. My whole life, my mum’s life, my father’s life, everyone’s life.”

‘This Morning’ co-star Phillip Schofield also praised Alison, adding that he and Holly Willoughby rang her privately to check on her following her appearance.

Phillip said: “The response online has been absolutely incredible for her today. We gave her a call afterwards and told her how amazing we thought she was. She’s very emotional.”
