Web Browser VSTs will become a thing according to Amped Studio.

Amped Studio, a browser-based music production platform, has become the first online DAW to support VST plug-ins.

A lack of VST support has kept some online DAWs from becoming go-to music-making apps, due to only offering stock effects to beatmakers and producers. The latest update to Amped Studio means you can load in VSTs from your desktop plug-in folder. Using the brand’s proprietary VST/Remote Beta app, 64-bit VST2 instruments are loaded via Device Chain.

Controlling a VST plug-in in Amped Studio can be achieved as you’d expect with MIDI controller compatibility, plus you can save and load in your favourite presets. There are some limitations, however. Currently, only one VST can be loaded into Amped Studio at a time and you aren’t able to automate parameters of the VST yet. “We are still working on improving this feature”, the company says, “but it would be very helpful if you give us some feedback, so we know we are moving in the right direction”

Bill Bryant of Amped Studio says, “Although our main focus is to continue to develop and support WAMs (Web Audio Modules), providing our users with the option of adding their favourite VSTs to Amped Studio is a great option Also, an excellent technical achievement that will assist us in developing new ways to make music on the web”.
