Jennifer Hudson will star as Aretha Franklin In New Biopic. The movie titled Respect is the Aretha Franklin biopic starring Oscar winner Hudson as the Queen of Soul. The movie trailer has been released ahead of the film reaching cinemas next year.
Directed by Liesl Tommy (Jessica Jones), and also starring Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tate Donovan, Heather Headley, Skye Dakota Turner and Mary J Blige, Respect follows “the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom”.
Franklin passed away in August 2018 at the age of 76. Hudson was among the performers who sang at her funeral service in Detroit, Michigan. Franklin was the subject of an acclaimed concert documentary, Amazing Grace, last year.
