Death Cab for Cutie – Kids In ’99

Death Cab for Cutie land on our pages for the first time with a new song titled Kids In ’99. Available for download and streaming, the new song is from their forthcoming EP, The Blue Pill.

The record is also a tribute to the three children who died in 1999 from the Olympic Pipeline explosion in Bellingham, Washington. In 1999, when Death Cab For Cutie were only a couple of years into their career as a band, a gas pipeline exploded in their Bellingham, Washington hometown. A gas leak ignited, and the resulting fireball killed three people: One 18-year-old boy and two 10-year-old boys.

“The Olympic Pipeline explosion in 1999 was a tragedy that really affected me while we were living in Bellingham,” Benjamin Gibbard said in a statement. “After all these years I felt it was worthy of its own folk song.”

Quotable Lyrics
Our house shaken by the blast
Black smoke billowing off the landscape
Sirens crying through the streets
With choppers hovering like vultures above a meal
