Jon Z & Baby Rasta – Voodoo

Jon Z & Baby Rasta drop a new album titled Voodoo. The music project is loaded with 12 songs and 3 guest artist features.

Jon Z is a rapper from San Juan, Puerto Rico whose music is equally influenced by reggaeton and American hip-hop, particularly trap. With an Eminem-esque high-pitched voice and a quirky style, his music often sounds like a Puerto Rican counterpoint to rappers such as Young Thug and Future.

Born Jonathan Resto Quiñone in 1991, he first began uploading freestyles to his YouTube channel in 2014. He performed concerts across Puerto Rico and caught the attention of Boy Wonder, who signed him to Chosen Few Emeralds Entertainment. His debut mixtape, The Game Is About to Change, appeared in 2015. Several singles followed, including “0 Sentimientos,” “Mentirte,” and “Violeta.” Over the next two years, Z made numerous guest appearances on tracks by artists like Frankie Roura, Josh D’Ace, and Mackie while issuing singles of his own like “Nunca Me Amo” and “Pali2.” His debut album, JonTrapVolta, arrived in 2017.

Baby Rasta has long been an influential voice in the world of reggaeton. Not only due to his success alongside longtime collaborator Samuel Gerena, but also as a guest artist appearing on some of the industry’s biggest hits, Baby Rasta (Wilmer Alicia) developed a good reputation and clout.

Having recorded four records as half of the famous reggaeton duo Baby Rasta y Gringo, two each for Sony International and Universal Music Latino, Baby Rasta broke off to test the waters as a solo artist. After years of disputes with record producers for showing Baby Rasta preferential treatment, Gringo too decided to go it alone and see what could be accomplished on his own.

Baby Rasta’s first solo outing for Universal, La Ultima Risa debuted at number nine in the U.S. Generating radio successes like “Ay de Mi!” and “Capturo,” La Ultima Risa bodes well for Rasta as a developing voice in a very young genre.
