Khalid drops off a new song titled Self from his upcoming album. Available for download and streaming on your favorite platforms, Khalid’s new single is produced by Hit-Boy. On the track, Self, we find the 21-year-old crooner doing some soul searching. “Always had a little trouble with self-reflections,” sings Khalid. “Does my raw emotion make me less of a man?”
I’ve been so used to winning / It was hard for me to lose / No, there’s nothing wrong with me / Must be something wrong with you.”
It’s gettin’ hard for me to breathe/’Cause the man that I’ve been runnin’ from is inside of me,” he sings over chiming keys and a reverb-heavy snare-kick beat. “I tell him, ‘Keep it quiet,’ so all he does is speak/’Cause he wants to keep his distance/But it’s hard for him to leave/He knows I hear him cryin’, cryin’ out for help/I don’t know how to save him — I can’t even save myself.”
“Self” is the latest offering from Khalid’s upcoming album Free Spirit, due April 5, which has already listed “My Bad,” “Better,” and the Disclosure-produced lead single “Talk.” Two days before the album’s release, Khalid will debut a short film at theaters worldwide.
