The Dandy Warhols share a brand new album titled “Why You so Crazy” with 12 tracks listed. The 12-track LP opens with a 1940’s sounding dusty song bit paying homage to Hollywood hoofers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers (“Fred N Ginger”) before diving into the rubbery, trippy “Terraform,” pivoting to the knee-slapping cowpunk party ditty “Highlife” and sliding into the classic Dandy rave-up “Be Alright.”

The latter was previewed in late 2018 via a 360-degree video directed by lead singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor featuring Mad Men star Jessica Paré leading viewers on a tour of the Odditorium inspired by a sip of some magical wine. We’ve always been driven to create art with emotional clarity,” Taylor-Taylor says in a statement about the album’s inspiration. “That’s what the world needs more than ever right now. I’ve never felt so strongly that people are losing their minds, and it’s more of them than ever before. Local politics, international politics, news programs, sitcoms, and our president all feel like the heat got turned up. It doesn’t feel like a natural progression of insanity, it just happened. Most people are behaving in a manner that can only be described as batshit crazy.”

With a robotic, futuristic sound added into their traditional mix of stoned rock soul, the band — which also includes keyboardist/vocalist Zia McCabe, guitarist Peter Holström and drummer Brent DeBoer –hypnotizes on the woozy, heat mirage jam “Next Thing I Know,” washes away your transgressions on the western swing acoustic jam “Sins Are Forgiven” (doubling down on the religious imagery on the draggy, psychedelic “To the Church”) and just flat out get down on the poppy “Motor City Steel” and “Small Town Girls.”
