Royal Canoe – Waver (album download)
Royal Canoe share a brand new album titled “Waver.” Royal Canoe have established themselves as musical mad scientists, throwing rock, pop and hip hop into a blender to create catchy-as-hell, dance floor-ready songs with odd time signatures and distorted vocals.
Royal Canoe released a new single, “Peep This”, today – share via YouTube. The track follows first single “RAYZ”, a month-long North American tour, and a performance at the Paste Live Studio, previewing material from the band’s upcoming new album, Waver, due out January 25th, 2019 on Paper Bag Records. Discussing “Peep This”, lead vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Matt Peters stated: “Peep This” is a song about going through a process of re-evaluation in a relationship. As the years go by, you’ve both clearly grown as people, but how has that impacted your partnership? The more you look outward though, the turbulent uncertainty overwhelms and you can’t imagine letting go. You find yourself awash in desperate energy as you realize how much you depend on each other to stay afloat – how could you make it alone?
Sonically Waver rifles through a treasure trove of sounds from pop, rock, R&B and hip-hop. There’s expansive synth walls, obtuse guitar solos, beautiful organ lines, all tied together with a deep rhythmic interplay between the bass, drums and electronics. This time around, everything is centered around the vocals and lyrics, mixed at the forefront and more vulnerable than ever.
