G Flip – Drink Too Much (download)
G Flip comes through with a brand new EP of 4 tracks titled “Drink Too Much“. Flip, born Georgia Flipo, fell in love with the drums as a kid and travelled the US as a touring drummer in her early 20s. The drummer-producer-singer has put that all into her new single ‘Drink Too Much’, which follows just days after her surprise emotional ballad ‘Bring Me Home’.
Premiered on triple j Drive, the track opens with bouncy piano before diving into heartfelt apologies set against crunchy bass and forceful beats. ‘Last girl she dumped me/Because I would drink too much’ she admits in the bright chorus.
The song was written years ago, after a particularly off-the-rails night at Melbourne club institution Revolver, only for G Flip to re-discover it in an old voice memo. “I spent time putting it together, producing it out [and] been playing it live and it’s just been growing from there,” Georgia Flipo (as G Flip’s folks call her) tells Veronica & Lewis. Her self-produced debut single ‘About You’ is an addictive, bittersweet shard of shimmering pop, inspired by her “hectic, toxic, cinematic” on-off relationship. It builds from a dreamy murmur into a cathartic tumble of layered synths and syllables, with her clean, spacious drumming taking front and centre. It was the very first track Georgia pieced together, recorded in a day in her bedroom studio into “a shitty mic from Cash Converters”.
