Vic Mensa adds his own weight to Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse soundtrack with a track titled “Home.” Given the film’s family-friendly tone, the end result is a far cry from Staples’ general wheelhouse.
That’s not to say he doesn’t turn in a strong performance. His flow remains focused, and his lyrics carry a notable weight behind them. “This morning I woke up in a fortress of distortion, I’m at war with my emotions, I’m at war with the enforcement,” raps Vince, inserting some poignant social commentary into the mix. It’s simply difficult to hear him over such a glossy, radio-friendly hip-pop instrumental, given the precedent he’s set. Still, the man is getting his bag, and for that, Vince must be respected.
