Halsey has come through with an official Colin Tilley directed video for her latest single “Without Me” that is easily one of her most honest tracks to date. The song is the first Halsey has ever written under her real name, Ashley, detailing how it’s “not protected by some character or some subplot.”
“It’s like this is really me talking about my life,” she told Zane Lowe. “It kind of gave me like an existential crisis as an artist a little bit, because I’ve prided myself on being an artist who’s authentic and writes about her life and all that stuff. And then when I made this and I felt just how bad it hurt.”
The video seems to also be a real one, as it follows a wild relationship that’s filled with drinking, partying and picking up the pieces the next day. Things turn when Hasley goes through her man’s pockets and finds a stack of cash, leading to the end of their relationship. With how open and honest Halsey was with the song and its lyrics, it makes us wonder if the video is a depiction of her relationship with G-Eazy – since the two are no longer together.
