Alessia Cara is back with the first single titled “Growing Pains.” The new track is leading up to the release of her upcoming album.
“Growing Pains” speaks of the transition to adulthood, the implied responsibilities one might and the torment that ensues. Her album is said to express the emotional journey that began since her debut three years ago. One might wonder why an album meant to encapsulate the experiences of a recent Grammy Award winner would lead with a single that bears such a somber sentiment. Perhaps it has something to do with her receiving backlash for the award. The lyrics “a short leash and a short fuse don’t match.
They tell me it ain’t that bad, now don’t you overreact” might be a hinting towards that situation. The title of her next album, which has yet to be confirmed, might shed some light on the matter. The album is set for a release in September.
Since debuting with the left-field antisocial hit “Here” in 2015, which positioned her as a voice for outsiders among her generation, the Ontario native has hit consistent new peaks, releasing her debut album Know-It-All that year and scoring radio hits with “Wild Things,” “Scars to Your Beautiful” and a feature on Zedd’s “Stay,” which peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100.
