Mila J shares a new song “That One Friend.”
Mila J drops off a new track titled “That One Friend” and has released an EP a month since January. On “That One Friend,” a track from the newly released May 2018, is built on a minimal house beat that eventually melts into the sticky, harmony-laden R&B Mila does so well. It’s the only track on the project that uses that formula.
Her earliest projects in 2018 were made up primarily of stripped-down acoustic R&B and vulnerable break up songs. Now with 5 EPs deep into the series, things have opened up a lot more.
Her songwriting feels sharper than ever. She cleverly references Whodini’s “Friends” on the hook, and on the verses, references “that one friend everybody’s afraid to bring up,” which sometimes, is herself.
