Femdot is working on a project called Closed Sessions and kicks off the campaign with a new song called “Happy October.”
Produced by Jabari Rayford, Charles Lauste and 5th of Hen, the Windy City MC floats seamlessly over the piano-driven track. “Man, we just wanted to be hoopers/ And now man we balling off songs in these computers,” he boasts. With Chicago’s rap scene flourshing lately through the ascents of Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, Mick Jenkins, and G Herbo, Femdot hopes to solidify his standing with the support of Closed Sessions.
“In regards to partnering with CS, it just made sense,” Femdot tells Billboard. “This next project is the biggest of my career thus far. We could have went a thousand different directions with this project, but why not keep it in the city? Contribute to the already budding industry in Chicago. We’ve already had a relationship with Closed Sessions to begin with. RTC [CS co-founder Alexander Fruchter] has been following my music since I was 16, and I’ve been around them for years. It just felt like the right move.”
Fruchter echoes Femdot’s decision to join forces with Closed Sessions by calling it a “perfect fit.” “I’ve seen Femdot grow as an artist since 2012,” Fruchter reveals to Billboard. “He is one of the purest spitters I’ve heard, and the substance of his music is incredible. Although I’ve only worked with him and his team a short time, I could tell immediately that their work ethic and motivation to make great music was just as strong as ours.”
