PARTYNEXTDOOR returns with a new single “Break Me Down,” which presumably is the leading record off his upcoming album.
The singer doesn’t provide any information as to the song’s origins or eventual landing. Where we saw the “His Name is Cassius” PARTYNEXTDOOR feature channel his ATL counterpart’s sound, on “Break Me Down” we get a more typical PND sound, but even at that, he forays into new experiments with his flows and vocals.
At one point, he sounds eerily similar to Young Thug, with a series of not-necessarily-intelligible lyrics. Instead he seems to focus more on creating short bursts of lyrics and words, very much ad-lib-like, over the soft, barely-there production. The beat swoons in the background with touches of shuttering closed hi-hats shuttering over the course of the over-five minute record. Take a listen and let us know what you think — see if you can catch all the name-dropping, from Kehlani, to Kylie, to Drake.
