Nigerian Government Makes Plans To Ban Local Artistes From Shooting Music Videos Outside The Country
The Federal Government of Nigeria has made a move to ban artistes from shooting their videos outside the shores of Nigeria. This includes music and movies.

Ths report which started going around as a rumour has been confirmed as the truth as the country’s Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed allegedly announced during his visit to the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) on Saturday the 15th of July stating that;

This government has agreed that henceforth, whatever we consume in Nigeria in terms of music and films, must be made in Nigeria.”

“We cannot continue to go to South Africa or any other country to produce our films and then send them back to be consumed in Nigeria.”

“The Broadcasting Code and the Advertising Code are very clear on this. For you to classify a product as a Nigerian product, it must have a certain percentage of Nigerian content.

This development is one that might definitely pose a challenge to Nigerian entertainment industry, especially with our music as our Nigerian artistes are more involved in international collaborations. These international collaborations are not just good for the artistes, but it has also proved to be good for the country too as it is a way to export our Nigerianness, including our culture to the world and also introduce the culture of other countries to us as we see with artistes such as Runtown do with their songs.

What do you think about the plans of the government for the Entertainment Industry in Nigeria
